Department of Public Health and Biological Sciences
Blue Gate aims to shed light on the influence of the determinants of health, i.e. factors (genetic, environmental, social, etc.) which determine population health, thereby, using this knowledge to propose interventions and policies, based on scientific evidence, to help improve health and well-being and reduce health inequalities in Nigeria. We study of life and living organisms, their life cycles, adaptations and environmen to expand our knowledge of cell theory, evolution, genetics, energy and homeostasis. We research infectious diseases, nutritional deficiencies, epidemiology and biostatistics, neglected tropical disease and traditional medicine.
Blue Gate through this department focuses on health practices, approaches, knowledge and beliefs incorporating plant, animal and mineral-based medicines, spiritual therapies, manual techniques and exercises, applied singularly or in combination to treat, diagnose and prevent illnesses or maintain well-being. We also hope to generate through investigation the knowledge of research data on the impact of traditional medicine on health and health care outcomes, and on the impact of patient's cultural identity, beliefs, and practices on their health.
